Well, we are beginning a new era in the U.S.A. In less than a week we will have a new president. And not just “any” president mind you, we will have a most controversial man at the helm. Donald Trump. To some he is the anwer to all of the years of corruption in politics. To others he is a bigot and a racist, among other things.

During his campaign, Trump promised to “drain the swamp” – and with his cabinet picks it looks like he will do just that. In the same breath I have to say, he is leading us to wonder. Also during his campaign he attacked other contenders concerning their ties to Wall Street. And again, in his cabinet, he is causing controversy. He has picked no less than five people directly tied to Wall Street. He has picked champions of industry, who, it would seem, will gut our protections of the environment for the sake of profit.

All we can do now is sit back and watch as the first 100 days unfold. We have to give Trump a chance to show that he is competent enough for the job. That he is willing to fight for the working class and for our country and not just another man (politician) out for himself and his rich buddies. We have to give him the chance to prove us wrong.

That being said, last night I learned that the GOP in congress has already voted to dismiss 6 Obamacare things. This happened before Trump is even in office. I guess they (the GOP) are hitting the ground running and making good on there promise to repeal Obamacare as fast as they can. I am curious as to how this will play out being that Trump ran on a ticket of saving Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security and all of that. I’m curious if he will renege on those promises as well as the other promised he has appeared to backtrack on.

Never the less, our next four years are in the hands of a government that is controlled, in all branches, by the Republicans. It brings to mind my research years ago where I learned that prior to the Great Depression of 1929, Republicans controlled the whole government. And then when George W. Bush was in office Republicans again controlled the entire government. And we went into the Great Recession. Now, for a third time Republicans control all branches of government. Will we again find ourselves in dire straits? Let’s hope not.

And while we are on the subject of government I want to take this opportunity to say that Obama was just another one of your establishment pols. Sure was and is a classy guy and he brought an air of elegance to the position, but he was still a cad. He did some things that really bothered me and he lost my confidence early on when he extended the patterns and actions of George W Bush – the Monsanto appointments to the USDA, the nuclear engineers to run his Energy Dept. and other such moves. He showed me that he is just another man in the machine.

So I can understand, to a degree, why people could vote for Trump, but I never thought that a racist, bigotted, misogynistic, simpleton would be president of our country. In my book, Bernie Sanders was the man for the job. But Hillary and the machine crushed that hope with her illegal activities. So now we are stuck with Trump. I hope he doens’t dissappoint us.
